Recently, in one of my mindless surfing adventures thru the net, I stumbled upon this website,
Hero at Heart. Several romance writers describe their perfect heroes. Most of them of course mention honor, courage, faithfullness, honesty, integrity, etc. The works, the perfect man. I found this kind of boring actually, but I kept reading and here are the ones I agree with the most:
"A romantic hero can be as much of a jackass as he likes, as long as hidden somewhere inside him is courage, honesty, and an abiding and inescapable love for the heroine."
- Emily Carmichael
"Personally, I prefer them flawed but redeemable, with a strong underlying sense of humor."
- Candice Hern
"The hero should always believe the heroine is the most sexy, intriguing, infuriating woman he's ever met; and the more she challenges him, the more he can't wait to strip her naked and cart her off to bed."
- Alicia Scott
(this one made me remember these are smutty romance authors lol)
"Every hero should have a deep, festering, emotional wound that only the heroine can heal. It's the most appealing characteristic you can give a man—because it turns the woman into his hero."
- Maggie Shayne
So what are the qualities you give your heroes? I don't like them too perfect, flaws are always more interesting. The more impossible their relationship to the heroine is, the better *coughROMYcough*. What can I say, I'm somewhat of a massochist. Well, not really because I expect to be together at the end. I find the fact that they can overcome any situation for love, simply wonderful.
I think Remy would make a great romance novel heroe (anti-heroe maybe?), just don't make him a pirate XD.
